CIRCUS RING OF FAME ANNOUNCES 2019 INDUCTEES
With great pride, the Circus Ring of Fame Foundation, Inc., has revealed the Class of 2019 to be inducted into the famous St. Armands Circle Ring of Fame. Always considered a highlight of the seasonal awards, the ceremony will take place on Sunday, January 13th, 2019, at 2:00 PM, with a circus band concert featuring musicians known as Windjammers and conducted by Andrew Glover preceding the festivities at 1:15 PM. Circus Ring of Fame inductees are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the world of circus. This year’s class includes The Hernandez Troupe, originated out of Cuba and Germany, by Manuel & Lisa Hernandez. Often billed as “those bouncing twisting titans of the teeterboard”, the family also presented various other well-known circus acts, traveling through the USA and other countries. Though not performing anymore, the family is still involved in continuing the family circus business, through teaching, directing, producing and even writing. The youngest of the siblings has just completed his first book, Circus Legends. Next is circus entrepreneur and impresario, the late Ron Morris, whose career not only included producing circuses, but also the establishment of Sarasota’s Spotlight Graphics, which for years has been the industry leader in circus poster, program and ticket printing. He was a Past President of Showfolks of Sarasota and a Circus Ring of Fame Board Member. Third to be inducted is Carla Wallenda, daughter of the late high wire sensation Karl Wallenda. She holds the distinction of being the senior-most daredevil, who was featured in 2017 on Steve Harvey’s Little Big Shots: Forever Young performing her signature sway pole act at age 81. Fourth on the list is the sensational Rodos Troupe and aerialists Palace Duo, the latter being Hans and Rosie Rode. In addition to circus, tv and stage appearances, this family established in 1972 the landmark Old Heidelberg Castle in downtown Sarasota, which was a family favorite for years featuring Bavarian style food, music, dancing and acrobatics.
On Saturday, the 12th of January, the inductees or representatives will be featured on a panel at an informal Meet-and-Greet reception at the Showfolks of Sarasota. Again, this event is open free to everyone and offers the public the opportunity to visit this unique circus social club. There will be a circus memorabilia flea market, and breakfast will be available. Showfolks of Sarasota is located at 5204 North Lockwood Ridge Road, and opens at 9:00 AM with the event planned for 10:00 AM.
